Description and Basic Information ::

Established in 1927 by an Act of Congress, the US National Arboretum is a 444-acre preserve that contains the National Herb Garden and the National Bonsai Collection. In addition to allowing the public to tour the beautiful multi-hued foliage along 9.5 miles of winding roadways, the Arboretum also conduct research, provide education, and conserve and display trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants to enhance the environment. The Arboretum is located in northeast Washington, DC, 2.2 miles from the Capitol. Admission is free. Arboretum grounds are open every day of the year (except December 25th) from 8am-5pm. The Administration Building is open weekdays 8am-4:30pm and on weekends 8am-5pm. The National Bonsai and Penjing Museum is open 10am to 3:30pm. The Arbor House Gift Shop is open daily 10am-3:30pm March 1 through mid-December. |
