| America’s first museum of modern art, the Phillips Collection opened in 1921 in the home of Duncan Phillips (1886-1966). The museum houses some of the most famous French Impressionist works in the world, including paintings by van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, Monet. In addition, the museum is home to several galleries that display masterpieces from modern artists such as Braque, Picasso and Matisse. Don’t forget to visit the American Impressionist galleries, with examples by Homer, O’Keefe, Eakins, Lawrence and many others. The Phillips collection is a publicly-supported, non-government institution, and is a must-see for any art enthusiast. |
