Description and Basic Information ::

The Newseum is one of the Washington area’s newest attractions. Located just across the Potomac River from downtown Washington in Arlington Virginia, the Newseum offers is devoted to journalism, offering interactive exhibits on all fields of the craft. The Newseum is the only museum of its kind. Open since April of 1997, exhibits include interactive displays where visitors can try their hand at being a TV anchor, sports announcer, investigative reporter, or other jobs in broadcasting and reporting. Other exhibits demonstrate how the elements of a story are put together and give a behind-the-scenes perspective on the news. Perhaps the biggest scoop ever, Columbus’s letter to Queen Isabella about his discovery of the New World, is on display. Also inside the Newseum is a news gallery where visitors can catch the news hot off the press. Radio broadcasts from around the world can be heard, as well as a display of the headlines of 70 newspapers. Next to the Newseum is Freedom Park, where a memorial is dedicated to 934 reporters who died on assignment. |
