:: Description and Basic Information ::
What is there to say, really, about a zoo? They’ve got animals---lots of them. The Smithsonian Institution’s National Zoological Park has lions and tigers and elephants and monkeys and birds and countless other species. The zoo also provides a wide array of restaurants and eateries, as well as gift- and souvenir shops to suit visitors of any age. The National Zoo provides exhibits on particular animals before 10am, allowing visitors to witness the creatures doing a little more than just sleeping. Any one who has ever been to the zoo should know not to arrive between noon and 2pm. The animals are usually taking a siesta at this time, yet it still seems to be the busiest part of the day as far as visitors go. The National Zoo offers a wide array of educational programs, conservation and preservation programs, environmental programs and much more. Call 202-673-4717 or visit their website at www.natzoo.si.edu for more information.
